Nadia Allario

Ancient "Savona" Styles
Nadia Allario is a ceramic artist based in Noli, Liguria, recognized for her expertise in traditional Ligurian ceramics. She draws inspiration from the historic ceramic traditions of Savona and Albisola, particularly the Bianco Blu and Levantino styles. In her atelier, located in an ancient tower, Allario creates both classic and contemporary pieces, blending local heritage with her own creative vision.
The Bianco Blu style is a hallmark of Ligurian ceramic tradition, originating in the historic centers of Savona and Albisola during the 16th and 17th centuries. This style is instantly recognizable for its elegant white or pale blue maiolica, beautifully adorned with intricate cobalt blue motifs.
Levantino style flourished mainly in the 18th century and is named after the Levantino family of potters, who were prominent in the Savona and Albissola area during that period.
This style is known for its lively, sketch-like decorations, often featuring minuscule human figures, animals, and landscape elements such as farms, trees, the sea, and sailboats. Scenes are typically inspired by French etchings, especially those of Jacques Collot.
